A beautiful home

charming and gracious hosts, created an extraordinary and memorable stay!
My husband and I were blessed to stumble upon this magical piece of paradise while traveling through Europe on our honeymoon. It's in the picturesque and highly interesting town of Martigny, land of wine, cheese, St. Bernards and Roman ruins. We could not have had a more wonderful and memorable stay! Our host, Robert Barradi, and his lovely wife treated us like family. We were greeted upon our arrival with an invitation to sit in their lush and beautiful garden, and were immediately offered a delicious local wine and coffee while we got to know one another. We used "Google Translate" to help us bridge the French/English language divide and it was more than adequate to communicate effectively (although there were many giggles on both sides at the "wonder" of technology). The home, built in 1915, is nothing short of magnificent, and truly a work of art (and labor of love) for our host, Robert (a renowned photographer, designer and artist). Our room was spacious, quiet, extremely comfortable, and the bathroom looked like something out of Architectural Digest. Thankfully, there was air conditioning in our room, which we hadn't had at our other hotels and REALLY appreciated, as it was quite warm in mid-August. The bed was comfy and soft (hard to find in Europe), and Robert brought us a beautiful tray of fresh fruit and water as soon as we got to our room. Robert was full of wonderful ideas about sights we should see during our visit and he could not have been more helpful to us (he gave us a great local map to help navigate the town). He was kind enough to give us a free pass to the local art museum which is genuinely "world class." The local restaurants in the town of Martigny are excellent, (all easy walking distance) and we enjoyed outstanding cuisine and local wines every night of our stay. Robert was happy to make recommendations (and reservations) for us.
No negatives at all!

Little paradise in the middle of the valley

The host is a very kind attentive guy, was very responsive to messages, provided all the necessary information about the house and the area nearby (advice on food delivery in the area during covid lockdown was super useful!) and arranged a warm farewell. The room is very spacious, clean, authentic and cozy. Special kudos for housekeeping! Shared toilet was no issue at all as it was as clean as private bathroom and we only shared it with another couple. As probably mentioned before, breakfast is marvelous and the host is very kind to accommodate it to any dietary needs. I could not have wished for a better place to stay in Martigny and will likely come back.
